1956 Furness ad. With the "Special 12" model for Holden cars, which I assume is a 12 foot model.

Re: Furness Caravans.
I got all excited just before Christmas after receiving a Trading Post link to a Vauxhall car and Furness van for sale in Adelaide.
It was for sale as a unit, a 1950 L Velox and 1949 Furness. Just what I need, another Vauxhall I rang the sellers, Price's Caravans, and had a chat to someone. The van had been 'refurbished' and the car had been obtained to period match the van for some publicity from what I understood. The car had been resprayed to match the van but it 'needed work' which was a bit off putting. So what about the price? The chap said he had no idea but said there had been interest from a museum in W.A. and he would be happy with $20-25,000. That's about where the conversation ended for me, it is a long way to go for me to check it out, although I did try and get someone to do it for me to no avail. I know around $6000 will get a good L Velox so the van looked a bit expensive.
These are the photographs posted with the ad. Anyway, at least we have some photos for posterity, it will be interesting to see if anyone considered it worth the money. I tended to feel it was more intended to get the punters in the door to look at vans.
The last two photos show an interesting feature, what appears to be a little gaol bed with sliding bars, Richard thought it might be an infants crib. I wonder if it was a standard feature?

Re: Furness Caravans.
Iam slowly going through boxes of brochures that I have had sitting collecting dust,
so here is the first a Post War 10 page Furness Caravans brochure featuring the four berth model.
Its interesting that someone had jotted down a couple of prices for the
10 ft and 14 ft shells only.
And the weight for the 14 ft at 18 1/2 cwt, and 10 ft at 16 1/2 cwt
(about 825 kg) which would be fairly heavy for a 10 ft caravan
