Our Touring Past

Having a search through the internet tonight and I came across these two great little tin toy caravans.
The first one is a Triang combination of a Land Rover and Caravan.

The second is a very nice 1960 battery operated tin car and caravan combination, both are in mint condition in the original mint condition box. I suppose being in mint condition should bring a higher price but at $2000.00 its just a bit to much for me.

I found these little 1:43 scale caravans on ebay.
They seem to be modelled from a caravan that was "hot rodded" by Mike Wells of New Zealand which featured in issue 14 of the Vintage Caravan Magazine.

Sorting some magazines recently and I ran across my only Meccano Magazine which is from Aug. 1928. An article reviews a recent Meccano building competition and a of all things a caravan is illustrated. The text really says it all, I can well imagine caravans were quite a novelty still in 1928. Might have to look for an old Mecanno set, probably cheaper to buy another van these days!!

I found this car and caravan combination on a stall on the weekend. They belong together and the sun umbrella is a nice addition. The caravan opens from the chassis to store the bits in and there was also a little table with a pattern matching the chair. Probably not a bad price for the lot but I let the temptation pass.

Cheap at $100 George. Was it battery operated like the version Richard posted above? Has what looks like the same table/umbrella combo too. gordon

I must be half asleep Gordon, I never noticed, sure looks the same. Not battery operated and I couldn't see a makers name. He had it labelled 1960 but I think it might be an earlier version.
