Airstream. ( America.)

Post by Richard »

I have had a long think about including Airstream caravans in the history section of the forum, but considering that these caravans would have to be the most recognised caravan the world over, and they were well ahead of their time when Wally Byam first designed them.
There has not been alot of these original caravans imported into Australia, I could probably count the number of vans that I know of one one hand, but in recent times it has become relatively easy to import a caravan into Australia so people are starting to import them for their own use or to "sell on".

Airstream founder Wally Byam created not just a product, but the whole culture of modern Trailer Travel in America. The airstreams first hit the highways in 1932 and for at least 40 years remained unchanged.

The photo below is of Dr H W Holman who built his own 1935 Airstream from plans supplied by the Airstream company.
