Another one bites the dust - Illawarra Springs

Post by griffin »

I've just received my latest Motorlife News from the Australian Motorlife Museum and found an item of concern for restorers in the Curator's Report. Acknowledging work done on springs for one of the museum's cars by Illawarra Springs it went on: "This firm will close on 30th June, due largely to it's inability to obtain spring stock, and the changing nature of springs in late model cars, and even trucks."

Myself and many other enthusiasts have had work done there over the years for cars and vans and the wealth of knowledge and assistance was unmatched. It will leave a big hole (another one) in services for those undertaking restorations.

Hi George ..
Yup.. sad news.
There was 2 companies here in Newcastle that had specialised in springs for near on 100 years... both folded in the past 5 years.
Its funny how ya think of springs lasting forever..... but when you see something from underneath a car or truck that has seen "active service "for half a century or more that has sagged or is carrying broken leaves etc.. ya realise just how hard they work.

Let us know if you find another Co that you can recommend.
