Sleeping Top Caravan Park.

Post by Richard »

I have been contacted by Syd who has email some very interesting photos of some caravans around the 1960's, with a few of the Sleeping Top Caravan Park that his father built.

G'day Richard,

I have some photos to contribute to your site.

These are as follows:-

Photo 1: This was taken sometime between 1963 and 1967 when Dad bought
his new ZA Fairlane. The car is a 1963 Rambler. The location would be the
Pacific Highway on the north coast according to the bananas in the back
ground.

Photos 2 and 3:- These were taken in 1960/61 at the Sleeping Top Caravan Park
in Purfleet, Taree South on the old Pacific Highway. This 'van park was
built by my father, Gordon Ramsay and was the first in NSW to have on-site
'vans.

Photo 4:- This is the plywood 'van I was conceived in as it was used on
Mum and Dad's honeymoon in March 1960. You will notice this 'van in most of
the shots. The photo was taken at the BP garage next to the Sleeping Top
caravan park which Dad also owned.

Photo 5:- My brother John and I "on-the-rocks" at the Craigieburn Park in
Glen Innes with the 'van and the Rambler, I would love to have this car
today, what a classic.

Photo 6:- The 18" Franklin behind the 1968 11A Land Rover photographed
late '70's.

Kindest regards,

Syd

That Rambler would be a nice head turner these days, I don't think I've ever seen one like it :)
