Holden display at Brisbane Show in 1950

Post by griffin »

'Pointers' was an in house magazine produced by GMH for their dealerships and they contain lots of interesting bits and pieces about the GMH range of cars.
The Sept. 1950 issue had an article about a display at the Brisbane Show provided by the Brisbane GMH dealer, Messrs Eager.
The photos aren't great quality but show a Holden that was suspended from the roof by the tow hitch for the duration of the show. Pretty nifty idea to show how strong it was. The lower photo shows a Holden hitched to a nice new Carapark.

The remainder of the article referred to on page 202 isn't included, it dealt mainly with other makes that were displayed by Eagers, the only further info given on the hitch display was that mirrors were placed on the ceiling for a good view of the hitch.

Hi George.
What a great article, thanks for posting it.
There has always been stories about FX and FJ Holden being stretched from towing caravans back it the 50's, even when I started towing with the FJ ute people even still mentioned this even though it was some 40 years later.
So it interesting that Holden was keen to show that it was not a problem back in 1950.
