Hi Richard

This looks like it could be a really interesting thread, I've not seen postcards with vans on.
I imagine the first one could come with a vast array of names on the same design.

Have you any details of the second one with the Ford, is it for a specific van or place or just a generic postcard?

I particularly like the van, it made me look for a picture of Cobbers Old 36 with the roof and the unusual quarter window but his van is smaller with both windows of a similar style. Assuming its an Aussie card it appears the van door is on the wrong side or am I just getting the van the wrong way round?

The L prefix plate on the Ford's number plate indicates a 'lorry' registration which in NSW was used on vans, utes and trucks,to the best of my knowledge into the 1930s and maybe later, I don't know when they ended. It's hard to tell from the direct front on of the Ford just what it is but I guess with three adults and two children a sedan would be more the order of the day.

More than likely it would be a hand tinted photo originally too and I'm always amazed at how well the artists could do it. Nice touch with the radio and tea pot and I notice no table, chairs and the like, just a couple of blankets and cushions. A lovely simple way of life.
