Grey Powered boat.

Post by Richard »

Found this old ply boat on Gumtree.
It still has a rebuilt grey motor and the original timber trailer.
Bit EXY though at $25000.00

Aahhh.....the memories. 1964.....the old man tows home a grey powered 13' bondwood 'speed boat' ($500) behind the 179 EH wagon and announces that we're all gunna learn to ski!!!........on the newly completed Tinaroo Dam on the Atherton tableland.
She was direct drive (no dog clutch) started in gear, flick the switch to turn 'er off!. Total loss cooling system via belt driven Finspray pump with dump pipe through the hull just under the gunnel on drivers side.........stick ya hand under the outlet every so often to make sure she hadn't picked up some weed and wasn't running too hot !!!!. ......only gauge was oil pressure and an ignition light!!!
All 5 of us kids learnt to ski AND drive towing each other from age 12....no licences.......only 2 or 3 boats on the lake at Tinaburra on a busy weekend!
26 mph flat out until an engine freshen up and tweak with twin Strommies saw close on a genuine 29-30mph!!
In hindsight the absolute BEST family fun we had in our lives!!!! :D :D :D
