Lostock Dam - Australia Day Weekend Vint Van getogether

Post by reddo »

Howdy Cowpokes..... :D
and those of you that dont poke cows..

I have just been on the phone to the caretakers at Lostock Dam Caravan Park.
The Park is approx 23K and 1/2hr drive west of East Gresford where we stayed down by the river a few years ago. 8-)
The park will be celebrating Australia Day ( Thursday 26 Jan ) with a family day.. Jumping Castle ( oh goody ) and other things to keep the kids ( and grand kids ) amused.

There will be a couple of bands playing on Satuirday night at the park.
"24 hours" and "Bushrocks". Dunno much about them  ... will have to google em i suppose. :?:
Entry to the bands will be $10 per head...Dunno how that works.. ... ifn ya in the bush and a band is playin ... well then .. ya gunna hear them anyway aint ya ???... ( Hmmmm.. they might have invented a gigantic Maxwell Smart cone of silence ??) .

Just wandering if anyone would be keen on spending a few days at the Dam .??
If you dont like the idea of the music on 'Saturday night  You could book in on any of the days leading up to the Saturday and then leave on Saturday morning.

Now for the bad news...When i rang there was only 1 powered site left... No: 9 . I booked it from Thursday through to Sunday. However...there is 150 unpowered sites at $20 a night if anyone is interested. No: 9 is at the end of the powered row....so ... maybe we could cheat and sneek another couple of vans in beside me and we could share the sparks for fridges and jugs etc ???

Anyway... just letting ya know there is an opportunity on the Australia Day weekend to suck in some countryside and some country music for a few days .
Oh... and dont forget your floaties for a splash in the crick or that thar big cement pond full of Perch.
Here is a coupla links to the area..

Thats good news Mr strugglebrook.

My father had a sheep farm in Germany...
I could never figure out why they called him a ......... "German shepherd"...

Just a heads up for others considering coming up to the Dam. The road from Gresford out to the dam is tar sealed , narrow and has some blind corners. just need to take your time with the van on..... and be on the lookout for oncoming farm utes and ... not sure if it still collects out that way??... but there use to be a semi trailer milk tanker doing a run every so often.
Also... there is limited supplies at the park kiosk.. so you need to bring everything you need to survive your stay... No cafe for a coffee and toast of a morning. No bottleshop if supplies run out
I would imagine they will have a fair bit of ice in stock to keep the coldies cold. :D

I spent some time out in the woods today...
OK OK... up the bush with the Stihl chainsaw.
Coupla dead gummys layin around.
So .. sliced and diced enough to fill the panelvan up when i head off for the 3 or 4 days at Lostock..

Things ya can do with hot ashes and sticks
Jaffles,,,
spuds in alfoil......
damper comp....
marshmellows....oooooohhh.
Billy tea... ummm.. no i use to get in trouble for saying "Billy"... we will have to have William Tea..
No No... Not William Tell.

Ummm.. what else is good around the fire....eye pokin with hot sticks..... Not as popular since i grew up.

Or... simply drag up the favourite decky.. knock the lid off your favourite beverage and kick back watchin the bushmans TV.

Waddya reckon folks :?: ... dooos i gets a job with the local tourist agent or wot ??

No matter what... message is simple.. if ya snooze ya loose.
So.. Dust off the termites... hose off the fobbergross.. or polish up the bauxite and come on down to Lostock .

"Howdy..

Had a great few days at Lostock.
after a stinking hot week a change came through and cooled things off on wednesday..
Light drizzle .... more like a mist while setting up the van and annexe.
Temps in the mid 20s made for ideal camping weather. No humidity.... no blazing sun... just good drinking and socialising weather.
Enjoyable evening yarning with John and pam .. who also bought along a couple.. Steve and Sharon... with a big new modern van and car.
The park filled up on Australia Day. lotsa familys with camper trailers .
I ended up with tent pegs and ropes almost in my annexe floor.
Nevertheless another enjoyable day..
A couple of park permanent residents got up on stage and played some laid back music from around 7 trill 11.
Then off to bed for me.
Spent a few hours on friday morning just kicking back yarning with the neighbours and feeding the parrots and blue wrens while the annexe roof dried off.... Lostock really is a great part of the world. The crap 22 klm patchwork tar quilt road into the Dam and park ensures that it stays a relatively quiet park that doesn't get overun with huge motorhomes and big vans on long weekends etc.

Then it was all over too soon. packed up and headed home as the sun started to make its presence felt. A few hours cleaning gear up and packing away in the van...... all done and dusted ready for Stockton in February..
The car and van will get another show day run next weekend at the Annual Rickshaws Hot Rod club M.A.D Day at Swansea ( Motorists Appreciation Day )

Cheers
